This week: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

We've had a lot happen this week. First, the good.

1. The babies are 3 months old!


2. Notice anything about sweet Carter, on the left?

Yes, no more oxygen! Finally, we are off the oxygen. We spent 4 hours at the pulmonologist's office, and he passed his test. We are thrilled that he is doing well, and that we no longer have to cart around the oxygen tank. Here he is doing his study at the doctor's office.


3. My house is clean, and I didn't have to clean it. Dan knew I was struggling in keeping up with everything, and so he hired someone to come in and clean. She's coming back in 2 weeks. I love her.

4. You'd think I never did anything with Tyler by the looks of my posts, but hey, I am a good mom. We've been to the park and the library within the last week, with the twins in tow. I am starting to get the hang of it.


5. Last night, Brady slept for 7 hours, and Carter slept for 8. YEAH!!

The Bad
I got a migraine Monday night. I am actually surprised I haven't gotten one sooner with the stress and lack of sleep. I am very grateful that I only get these 3-4 times a year, and that mine are not debilitating. I am also glad it happened in the evening so I could just go to bed and Dan was here to take care of things.

The Ugly
Whatever, no ugly here. Just cute babies!

Pictures

I finally finished up a huge order over at Snapfish. I have been using them for printing my photos for several years and have been quite happy with the results. I had yet to print any pictures since the twins were born, so after several hours yesterday of organizing and uploading, I now have over 300 pictures headed my way in the mail. The idea that I will be able to actually do something creative with them is laughable, but I do hope to stay on top of printing and organizing my photos so that when I actually have some spare time I can scrapbook. Anyway, these pictures caught my eye. Dan went to an Astros game recently with his brother, and of course the ice cream hats are just the right size for the little guys.

One for the grandmas

Just so you can see how much they've grown. The first picture was taken August 4. The last two were taken September 10. I wish I had the skills to be a wonderful baby photographer. The outfit Carter is wearing in the first picture, where it looks huge on him, no longer fits, and they are almost out of size one diapers. What happened to my preemies?

A Tale of Two Posts

What follows first, is the blog post I had written out in my mind last Wednesday. (Come on, I know I'm not the only one that writes out posts in my mind while an event is going on.)

On Wednesday, the babies had their 2 month well check. They are growing by leaps and bounds. Brady was 10 lbs. 2 ounces. Carter was 10 lbs. 1 1/2 ounces. Uncorrected for their age, they are in the 20th percentile for weight, which is awesome. They are growing so much, in fact, that the doctor told us it was time to go off the preemie extra-calorie formula and we can now get the much cheaper regular calorie formula.

They both got their immunizations, and I only cried on the first round. I was much more put together when we got to the second baby. I always hate having to hold them down while they get shots.

Overall, I was glad to see that they are doing well. Carter still has his same old issues of oxygen and the apnea monitor, but it is progressing. I am glad to see that they are both happy and healthy and progressing the way they should.



Okay, and here is the second post from that day.

Eariler that morning, Carter seemed to have a bit of a stuffy nose and a really low grade fever. At the doctor's, he didn't have a fever, so they went ahead with the shots. But, after we came home from the doctor's his monitor started going off like crazy. It had been probably 3 weeks since he had had any apnea episodes, and from the time we got home from the doctor's until Dan got home from work, his monitor probably went off 25 times. He also spiked a fever of 101. So, off we went to the emergency room.

They kind of freaked out over the fact that we had a newborn under 3 months with breathing problems and got us right back. They ruled out RSV, flu, pneumonia. And then sent us across town to a hospital with a pediatric ICU. Carter and I had our first ambulance ride.




After two nights of monitoring, it was basically decided that he had a cold. They assumed that his apnea episodes were a result of that and adjusted his caffiene levels. They sent us home. Carter is fine. We just keep him suctioned and are using a humidifier.

I however did a little digging around the internet and found THIS about apnea in preterm infants after immunizations. I am convinced that this is what we were dealing with and look forward to our appointment with the pulmonologist on Tuesday so we can talk about that.

Again, Carter is just fine. It's really only a cold, and he hasn't had any more epsiodes of apnea either.

A new look

I decided it was time to make-over the look of my blog since I still had our family of three in my header. A quick word about that picture:


When we went to Florida in June, Kelsey suggested we take some family pics. "Great idea," I thought. "We can use those for Christmas cards, unless of course we happen to get a baby between now and Christmas." Well of course, we took those pictures on June 12 I believe. The twins were born June 20. So now I have these awesome pictures that are already outdated. Oh well, I love them, and I still printed off a few and have them displayed, and the one of Tyler is adorable.

I also have been thinking about my blog title. When I started my blog (almost 2 years ago, wow time flies) I thought, who would want to read about my life, it's so boring. That's when I came up with the idea that although my life is ordinary, it is still mine and therefore unique. But now I feel like, while I'm not suddenly special, my life isn't quite so ordinary anymore. I'm an adoptive parent, and a MoM (moms of multiples), and my blog title just doesn't seem to fit quite the way it used to. But then again when all you do pretty much all day is feed babies, change diapers, and read blogs, I guess your life is rather boring, and who would really want to read about that?

I did it. I found a few spare moments to get organized with my photos, and here are some new pictures of the boys.

Carter. I had this great idea to take a picture regularly, and use this adorable monkey as a point of reference as they grew over the course of the year. Umm, hasn't happened.

Kindergarten

It seems like there are two camps: one where mom is so sad to see her baby start kindergarten, and one where mom is excited. I am in the latter. He is just so ready, and I am ready to not be his sole entertainer. While we were walking in this morning, he said he was feeling a little nervous, but when we picked him up, we were informed that kindergarten is fun, and he will not be scared tomorrow.
