Christmas countdown

Since it's now December, we have started our countdowns.

First, our Christmas books.  I have blogged about this before, and it is still one of our favorite things.  My mom started giving us a Christmas book on Christmas Eve in 1993.  We unwrap one each night and read it.

Our stack of Christmas books this year

The other countdown we are doing is an activity advent.  (I'll see how this goes doing two things each day.  Hopefully we haven't overextended ourselves.)  About 5 or 6 years ago I found this countdown at Marshall's.

There is supposed to be a star attached on a string that moves around counting down the days till Christmas.  Well, we lost the star this year.  So I got the brilliant idea of putting a slip of paper in each pocket with an activity on it.  Here's what we are doing:

  1. Spaghetti Factory and Temple Square
  2. To Grandma's for a special FHE
  3. Watch some of the Christmas Devotional
  4. Make paper countdown chains
  5. Write letters to Santa
  6. Christmas craft
  7. Watch Polar Express and have "Polar Express Hot Chocolate"
  8. Shopping trip with Mom or Dad
  9. Watch Luke 2 with Breath of Heaven
  10. Look at Christmas Lights
  11. Make Snowflakes
  12. Teacher Presents
  13. Thanksgiving Point Lights
  14. Make Goodie Plates
  15. Watch Elf
  16. Play a game and listen to Christmas music
  17. Gingerbread houses
  18. Christmas coloring page
  19. Watch Charlie Brown Christmas
  20. Sledding
  21. Watch The Grinch
  22. Make reindeer food
  23. Make sugar cookies
  24. Get the house ready for Santa
I'm looking forward to a fun December!

We ordered a bunch of Christmas books through Josh's classroom book order, and I am thinking I may borrow your tradition of wrapping them. I love that! And I think the boys would LOVE it! Thanks for sharing!
